PelekasThis lovely walk takes us down Pelekas Hill and inland towards the valley floor before turning back to the coast to end up on Pelekas Beach at around lunchtime. En-route we will visit the quiet, traditional village of Varipatades, come across hidden churches and even a lake during spring and late autumn. All the time we will be surrounded by wildflowers, butterflies and birds and the air is filled with the scent of wild herbs. If we are lucky we might see buzzards and possibly eagles, lizards and even a tortoise! The walk will end at the superb Pelekas Beach, where it is time to relax. There are several tavernas available for a well-earned lunch and lovely clean water for swimming. When you are ready to leave, you can either walk up one of the roads to the village (about 45 minutes), or take the free bus that runs between the beach and the village. Most of the walk is on an excellent wide track (unmade) with 3 short road sections and paved village streets. There are some quite steep hills, down as well as up, notably from Pelekas Beach to the village, but the bus makes it easy! There is considerable shade along the route but there are some exposed sections. The total distance is about 6 miles / 9 kms and should take about 3 hours, Start time is 10.00 a.m. The starting point is at "Pelekas Cafe" in Pelekas main square. Suggestions for things to bring
